Song 1 – LIFT EVERY VOICE
STEP 1
Download the PDF of the hymn, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” here. You will need to sing it through with all 3 verses. Practice it through as many times as you need to get it nice and clean!
STEP 2
Record a video of yourself singing the hymn using your cell phone or any other recording device. To do the recording, be sure to wear headphones so that it does not come through into your recording (I need just your voice). Sing along with the accompaniment track so that we’re all in the same key and singing at the same tempo.

Do not worry about what the video looks or sounds like before or after you sing. I will edit out anything before or after you sing. So take a breath before you start and don’t rush to cut your video off. Take your time and focus on the singing.

Song 2 – WHY WE SING (Stanza 2 refrain, Stanza 3 all)
STEP 1
Download the PDF for the song, “Why We Sing” here. You will need to create 2 recordings. Page 1, just sing the refrain twice. Page 2, sing the verse with the refrain twice. Practice it through as many times as you need to get it nice and clean! Here’s a recording with Kirk Franklin so you can get a feel for the style. Sing melody if you’ve never sung black gospel before. If you’re comfortable with the song and can add a harmony, feel free to do that on the refrains.
