The Organ & Congregational Song

The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada is pleased to present a four-episode series of videos celebrating the role of young organists in encouraging, promoting, and enlivening congregational song. Each video includes an interview conducted by Dr. Nathaniel Gumbs, Director of Chapel Music at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Each episode opens with the featured young artist performing a hymn accompaniment or a hymn-based organ work.

The four videos feature:

Carolyn Craig, Master of Music student at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music
Asriel Davis, Master of Music student at Syracuse University
Clara Gerdes, Music Director at Most Holy Redeemer and Nativity Parish in New York City
Joshua Zentner-Barrett, Minister of Music at Kanata United Church in Ottawa, Ontario

These videos are being offered for free viewing or download to celebrate the commitment and creativity of young artists and to promote the role of organists in leading congregational singing. This series was made possible by a generous gift from the George M. Hartung Memorial Fund.
